I love you, old sport...Jay to Daisy

My Dearest Daisy,
            Since the day we met, I have been madly in love with you. Even though we were separated by a war, all my thoughts were devoted to you. For five years I did anything I could to try to see you once again. I wish with all my heart that I could have been with you all this time and that you would be married to me, instead of Tom. I threw all my parties for you, in hopes that you would wander into one. I spent every day of my life thinking about you. I hoped and prayed that you did not forget about me and the true love that we were in, because I did not.
           The opportunity has presented itself for you and me to return to our former life: to set everything back to how it once was. You have been and always will be the woman I love and want to marry. I need you back in my life. I missed you tremendously. I would do anything to go back and see you in your white dresses driving around in that white car. Daisy you are beautiful. I love you, old sport. And I ask of you this, would you please come and spend the rest of your life with me?

Chapter 3 - Passage One

Passage one:

The passage is emphasizing the material things. The actual people are being compared to moths, which make them seem insignificant. A moth is a very quiet, animal that does not have a significant impact. He says the gardens and champagnes are more important. Nick is saying the partygoers attend the party for the things at the party rather than the other people that will be there.
