Chapter 3 - Passage One

Passage one:
The passage is emphasizing the material things. The actual people are being compared to moths, which make them seem insignificant. A moth is a very quiet, animal that does not have a significant impact. He says the gardens and champagnes are more important. Nick is saying the partygoers attend the party for the things at the party rather than the other people that will be there.

  1. I like how your interpretation is sweet and to the point. I agree with your statement, especially because moths tend to be attracted to light. Gatsby's parties would represent the "light" that the people are attracted to. The fact that you said how the people are moths classifies them as insects, which would of course make Gatsby higher and more significant than them(which this chapter implies).
